Autocratic Leadership

Autocratic leadership is an old way of leading corporations. I will try to explain what is autocratic leadership and how is it different from democratic leadership.

Autocratic leadership is leading with words: “I am always right!”. Autocratic leaders usually don’t let their employees tell their opinion and they think they are always right. Now in some organizations that can be good but in most it is not.

Todays environment is changing so fast, the economy is growing and changing on daily bases and one cannot know everything. You know how they say, two heads always know more than one. This is what autocratic leaders don’t have, the second head. They can be as smart as hell and have as many experiences as possible, but they could still be better if they would know how to listen to their workers. Usually workers have best ideas becouse they are really close to the product and/or customers. Real leader knows how to listen to others and this leadership style is called democratic leadership, where everyone can say what they think.

On the other hand autocratic leadership is as I already sad “I am right” style of leadership and there is no room for ideas of the workers. That lowers the motivation and brakes inovation, this is of course bad for company.

Autocratic leadership is passe and leaders who don’t know that yet will figure it out sooner or later. But the way they will figure it out might not be so nice…
