Business Process Reengineering
Business Process is basically an activity to achieve a defined business outcome and set of logically performed tasks to have a defined business outcome and thus, processes and design of workflows within an organization.
Recently, for the many superb developments in the business, the basic activity is re-engineering which has led to execution of separating the functional tasks and re-engineering the functional processes. There are many management information systems like enterprise resource planning, groupware and collaborative systems, customer relationship management and human resource management to integrate wide number of business functions and redefining the business and re-engineering theory.
The success of business process reengineering (BPR) initiatives is dependent on the employees as they are the persons to deliver the benefits to the company and the customers. But, the BPR emphasizes on downsizing and restructuring and thus they are often criticized. The question is should BPR be incremental or radical? BPR is frame-bending or frame-breaking in nature and thus process changes need to be radical.
Also, implementation needs to be executed by a well thought and proper analysis of multiple perspectives of the present and future should be made. The ‘big-bang approach” has helped in making the integrated client server system with a four year planning and implementation process and implementation is to be done with perfect action plan.
BPR does not offer a miracle cure on platter but alters the basic way of people’s thinking itself and requires the stannous hard work of the people. Also, motivated leadership, focus and super process design is the most important and essential ingredient for the business re-engineering and development. To be successful, business process reengineering projects need to be top down, taking in the complete organization, and the full end to end processes. It needs to be supported by tools that make processes easy to be tracked and analyzed.
