Change Management Iceberg by Wilfried Kruger
With today’s changing economy change management is a very hot topic to be discussed. In order to tackle the employees of a company managers always try to use some innovative methods. One of the best ways to enhance this point of view is to take a closer look at change management iceberg.
This management was invented by Wilfried Kruger. It makes the managers to look at the entire picture. Most of the managers keep focusing on the top of the iceberg or just at the surface of the iceberg, and they forget that most of the icebergs go below the surface also. Issue management sits at the tip of the iceberg. Issue management includes issues that pertain to quality, time and cost. There are two more categories which are to be considered that are below the surface. They include the way in which our perceptions and beliefs are managed as well as management of power and politics. Before managing reaction or issues that arise that arise from the two categories it must be remembered that change impacts people on each and every level of organization. These types of people are divided into four categories:
- Those supporting the change and have positive attitude towards the change. These people have advantage if this change occurs i.e. the promoters.
- Those who would likely support you but are not yet convinced. They also have a positive attitude towards this change. i.e. the potential promoters
- Those who are verbally against the change. Those who have a negative behavior towards this change i.e. the opponents
- Those who appear to support change but secretly despise it. It means that they support only on superficial level. i.e. hidden opponents
It should be remembered that there are different types of people who believe differently about the changes involved in the system. It would help in better handling of objectives and working towards a positive outcome. It there is a failure in recognizing that there are people who will have both positive and negative reactions will result in a disaster.
