Effective Leadership Skills
I will talk about leadership skills in this article. But not just any leadership skills, the effective leadership skills! I will try to present what skills you need to have/gain to be an effective leader.
First thing that is very important is that you need to be human. Now don’t laugh. I am not talking about haveing two legs and two arms (that does hurt either lol). You need to be able to listen to people and understand them. You need to be their friend and be able to motivate them without force. Effective leader is someone who people want to follow out of their free will.
Next leadership skill you will need in order to be effective is knowledge. You cannot tell and teach people to do something if you don’t know how to do it perfectly. Now some modern leaders don’t have that skill and they can still lead people with empowerment leadership style. But this is whole other art so let’s stick to the basics. You will at last need to know what you want your workers to do for you.
Next very important skill of a leader is power. There are very rare leaders who will be able to make people listen to them if they don’t have the formal power to command. So make sure you gain some sort of power before you start leading people. There are all sorts of powers and you can search for them on our site.
Last thing I would like to point out is that to be an effective leader you have to belive you are an effective leader. If you do not belive you have effective leadership skills, either will people you want to lead. So belive in yourself and be a great leader!

Your first point about being human is spot on! Certainly in my experience understanding how people tick and, more importantly, being able to really listen is essential for you to be an effective leader.
On your point about knowledge and being able to do it ‘perfectly’ – the problem leaders face is as they climb the leadership ladder they begin to face different challenges and have wider responsibilities. They will be challenged to still remain ‘perfect’ at the jobs being undertaken by those they lead. Empowerment, planning, coordination and other practical skills will then become of higher importance.
And on your last point – belief in your own ability is A MUST!! If you are not, or dont, portray confidence (even if you may not feel it!) you will not inspire and motivate those you lead to achieve what you ask of them.

Empowerment actually relates to delegation. Making your members accountable and responsible for their actions empowers them. It makes them feel greater self-respect; and in the long-run, it would allow them, working with accountability, to develop creativity and become better workers.
