Empowerment actually relates to delegation. Making your members accountable and responsible for their actions empowers them. It makes them feel greater self-respect; and in the long-run, it would allow them, working with accountability, to develop creativity and become better workers.

Your first point about being human is spot on! Certainly in my experience understanding how people tick and, more importantly, being able to really listen is essential for you to be an effective leader.

On your point about knowledge and being able to do it 'perfectly' - the problem leaders face is as they climb the leadership ladder they begin to face different challenges and have wider responsibilities. They will be challenged to still remain 'perfect' at the jobs being undertaken by those they lead. Empowerment, planning, coordination and other practical skills will then become of higher importance.

And on your last point - belief in your own ability is A MUST!! If you are not, or dont, portray confidence (even if you may not feel it!) you will not inspire and motivate those you lead to achieve what you ask of them.
