Positioning Definition

Cool question came in today, what is positioning? Everyone knows a little bit about it but what is it exactly?[ad#ad-4]

Today is a time of a very high competition and people have many problems in differing the products from each other. Positioning is a process of positioning on the market with a certain characteristic that helps people know and differ your product from the competition. This is a very simple definition but it does say everything. Let’s tell a little bit more about it though. Let’s take a look at some examples.

What is the first thing that comes on your mind when you hear word Volvo (beside Twilight hehe :) )? Safety yeah! Now why? Becouse Volvo made a goal of positioning himself as a safe car! Belive it or not, Volvo is not the safest car at all! But they were one day and they’ve promoted it so well that even us, young generations who have never seen commercials of Volvo at all know, that Volvo is a safe car. This was a short “example positioning definition”.

Let’s take a look at another example. What is the first thing you think of when you hear word Smart? Yes, a very small car that you can park anywhere! Getting the picture?

One more time, the positioning definition: Positioning is promoting one or more characteristics of a product that makes your product better than any other and that is the reason that customers would buy your product instead of something else.
