What is Outsourcing?


Many a times, an organization is not able to deal with all the issues of business independently. Also, at times these processes are not permanent and therefore, organization may not want to employ its own professionals to execute these tasks. Thus, outsourcing comes into existence as it is defined as the contraction of one company with another or a person to perform particular tasks. Outsourcing is any operation that in house professionals can perform bit is given to another third party for certain span of time. Also, the third party can do these tasks on-site or even off-site and the process being performed through outsourcing is then considered to be non-core for the business. Today, every firm or organization is doing outsourcing in one way or other. These outsourcing services which are performed by outside firms, generally known as third-party providers are also referred to as service providers and once they are assigned certain task then, it’s their responsibility to perform the tasks and maintain the assets of organization. Following are considered to be the most normally used outsourced streams for business:

  • Content Development
  • Web Design and Maintenance
  • Recruitment
  • IT Maintenance
  • Logistics
  • Manufacturing
  • Technical/Customer Support

However, there are many benefits of outsourcing to an organization; but it can also pose many difficulties if not outsourced to the right service provider.

Outsourcing is mainly increasing due to the fact that:

  • Scarcity of skilled-labor for some parts of business process
  • Cheaper labor is available and, without comprising on quality of service output
  • It renders feasibility to focus on various other significant business process

Outsourcing gives the advantage of expertise and swiftness in communication skills, focussing more on core issues, technical expertise, reduction in operational costs and recruitment. Although there are many benefits of outsourcing in an organization, but if not outsourced to required and proper service provider, it can cause difficulties.
