What Makes a Good Manager?
This is a topic that often draws many debates. There are many theories surrounding as to what makes a good manager? This can be rather called even as a billion dollar question. What is the general opinion about a manager in the minds of a layman? Everyone feels that he has the upper hand in all the decision making of a company and every people under him even has a fear that he can chase them out of their job, if he feels that they are worthless. This shows clearly that a manager is respected as a very high official in the company, sometimes even equal to the managing director.
Can everyone become a manager? This is like asking can everyone in a team become the captain. You can clearly see how stupid it is for a question like that. Hence a person who passes all the qualities of a manager can only become a efficient manager. First and foremost of all the qualities, a manager must be able to influence his subordinates to do their or the work assigned by him. In the recent century management has been devised as an important subject and people have to read it like all other subjects in order to gain knowledge about efficient management.
Hence different management experts have come up with different say on this subject. Every one supports their own theories with strong observations.
However, among this there are some universally accepted skills that formulate the basis of a Good Manager. These are the skills that are applicable to all the managers irrespective of the sectors he is serving. These skills can be listed as follows.
- His ability to make the subordinates feel comfortable
- How well he is able to harness all the skills of the employees in achieving the goals of the organization.
- How trust worthy or reliable is he
- How well he is able to handle the situations of crisis and sail through it.
- His willingness in delegation of power
- How keen he is to include the opinion of the sub-ordinates while making decision.
